Dear Jasper,
The Manhattan College community is currently experiencing an exciting
time of transformation and renewal. Consider last year’s triumphant
celebration of the College’s 150th Anniversary, the outstanding
performance of our athletic teams, and this year’s record-breaking
applicant pool (the largest in the College’s history). In
addition, the average SAT scores of this year’s freshman class
have been our highest yet. The generosity of our faithful alumni
has enabled us to flourish.
Alumni contributions are vital to any private college’s
well-being. At Manhattan this is especially important—40%
of our students are from the first-generation of their families
to attend college and would be unable to afford a quality education
without financial assistance. Thankfully, we are blessed with thousands
of alums who demonstrate their gratitude to Manhattan by “giving
back” to the College, year after year. New and improved facilities,
an ever-increasing range of scholarships, and greater academic opportunities
are just some of the benefits that today’s students reap from
the generosity of yesterday’s.
In this time of increased competition for dwindling numbers of
students, we envision an enhanced College, one that is stronger
at every level, while remaining true to our Lasallian mission and
identity. A strong present enables a strong future, and your generosity
is integral to both. I look forward to your companionship as we
travel the path to an even brighter future for Manhattan.
Br. Thomas Scanlan, F.S.C.
